When I first took over as the coach for my son's soccer team we were losing games regularly.
Part of it was because of a lack of skill on the part of the boys, and most of it was a lack of confidence on their part. I knew two thing had to happen.
When you raise your skill level you raise your confidence level and when you're confidence level goes up...amazing things will happen for you.
I realized that I wasn't doing a good enough job of getting them to think like winners and so I began to make sure we focused on...
"winning" and not focus on "not losing".
And when we did, an amazing thing happened!
We started winning practically all our games, just by making a switch from "playing to not lose" to "playing to win".
